Got Sour Grapes?! Pentecost XVII

Got Sour Grapes?! Pentecost XVII

Are you a sour grape? Are you a wild grape? Isaiah prophesied, and Jesus later used as His illustration of the ungrateful tenants in the parable of the landowner:

"Let me sing for my beloved my love song concerning his vineyard: My beloved had a vineyard on a very fertile hill. He dug it and cleared it of stones, and planted it with choice vines; he built a watchtower in the midst of it, and hewed out a wine vat in it; and he looked for it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes."

Pentecost XIII: Jesus' Seven "I AM" Statements

Jesus asked His disciples: “Who do people say the Son of man is?”1 This was quite an interesting question for Jesus to ask. Who do people say that Jesus is today? The Qur’an mentions Jesus twenty-five times, recognizes Jesus’ virgin birth, and His ability to work great miracles! Jews today acknowledge Jesus as a great and wise teacher, a miracle worker, prophet, and the charismatic leader of a strange Jewish sect. Who do you say Jesus is?

Pentecost XI Search Me, O God, and Know My Heart

Pentecost XI Search Me, O God, and Know My Heart

God sees everything unfold, all the interactions between all people, times, and places. He sees your unique place within this tapestry. He sees what you do with the yarn He’s given you. The Psalmist continues: “Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you know it altogether. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.6 Isn’t that beautiful? There is such richness and depth to the Psalmist’s words books could be written to try to give them justice! Despite our sinful nature, God corrals us front and back, and lays a guiding hand upon us. He keeps chaos at bay while allowing us to make our own mistakes. He sent us Jesus to be our example of what it truly means to be God’s child. Because we cannot live up to that example, Jesus died and rose so that you can receive forgiveness for that shortfall.

Pentecost X The Parables of the Treasure and the Pearl

Pentecost X The Parables of the Treasure and the Pearl

When a person finds faith in Christ, everything else becomes insignificant. That faith is like discovering a treasure where you least expected it. One who stumbles upon Jesus is like the man who finds the treasure buried in a field. Once he discovers the value of what he found, he will do anything to keep it. When we hear what Jesus, our priceless treasure, has done for us we cling to Him with all our might.
